Alone to man the counters at the shop
where sticky fingered folk are free to smash, grab and steal.
She works in fear, the mischief does not stop.
Her calls for help, the proprietor simply dismissed.
Her fifteen years of service at the counter didn’t matter.
So how could she, those threats to her resist?
So nine-one-one she finally calls one day,
and help arrived; but she was punished, because she made that call.
“Stay home three weeks! – and lose three weeks of pay!”
“Foul” cried her union – who thought this quite unfair.
The union insured, she got her pay – and demanded law and order.
That Macys in Seattle didn’t care.
