T’was one night before Christmas _ 2000 _ 9,
the Elites they were stirring, and had little time.
While those on the left wanted one payor only,
those Elites on the right, act only quite slowly.
And the mass in the middle … mostly live in a shell,
many remain silent, some mumble, some yell.
But blindly they wonder with their worn furrowed brows …
goodness what in the world is happening now?
The Elites are all fighting … they’re angry … they’re riled.
Their wants they are many … their lists are compiled.
They tell all the masses, “Your interests come first …
… we’ll give you more bread and fatten your purse.”
But after the speeches and the spin has been spewed,
the Elites call their buddies, real discourse ensues.
Assurance is promised … no change will be made,
to cause an Elite not to be paid.
Now Durbin and Reid … let out the zoo!!
And Schumer, Whitehouse and Lieberman too.
Why it’s health care reform … we’re cleaning the stalls …
now dash away … dash away … dash away all!!
Our president states that we’re fixing a mess,
with premium dollars … two thousand less!
And sure! keep your doctors! … come join in the song …
let’s rejoice all together … why what could go wrong?!
The goal is to get … a bill they can pass …
to the president’s desk … finally … at last.
So use all the tape and the twine you can muster,
they’ll get this thing passed with boasting and bluster!
And the cost doesn’t matter … spend more and spend fast,
some results unintended, but reform that will last!
For what will it matter if the masses might suffer?
They live in a shell, it will just make them tougher.
While that mass in the middle, remains silent, ignored.
Inside they’re wondering, who’s being gored?
Why can’t Elites work together as one?
For one sided reform will end up undone.
When too many aren’t happy with a bill that is passed,
the odds of disruptions and problems are vast.
And who do you think might be paying the price?
If it be the Elites, now that would be nice.
The democrats voted all sixty together,
with some of the rational being quite clever.
But that didn’t matter it had to be passed,
despite future disruptions to be unsurpassed.
Instead of addressing real problems at hand,
the health care reform was overly grand.
They ignored harmful impacts of changes they made,
thereby contempt for the masses displayed.
Now Social Security and Medicare too,
were passed with consensus, weren’t just rammed through.
So … what were you thinking? From were did you come?
You just foment new foes when you give folks the thumb.
You must have forgotten new elections are coming,
you’ve set yourselves up for a wholesale drubbing.
Your logic is lost in your elite little bubble.
Your hope and your change will fall into rubble.
Heed this dire warning you Elites who don’t care,
from the mass in the middle you double-dog-dared.
We may be quite simple … too trusting at first …
but hey we’re not stupid … and we get the last verse.
You Elites of the left … you … who we trusted,
of course you helped many … but many millions got busted.
Your one size for all, top-down plans just don’t work …
We’ll vote you all out, each presumptuous ____ person.
