Woodson founded the non-profit Woodson Center (woodsoncenter.org; ph: 202.518.6500) in 1981.\u00a0 He was a leading activist in the Civil Rights Movement during the early 1960s.\u00a0 The Woodson Center, located in Washington DC, focuses on neighborhood empowerment to seek solutions to the problems in disadvantages communities through what he calls the social entrepreneurs that are indigenous to the communities.\u00a0 He grew up in a segregated neighborhood in Philadelphia.\u00a0 The Woodson Center has developed and implemented a number of successful programs in many disadvantaged neighborhoods .<\/p>\n
