{"id":396,"date":"2017-05-02T08:54:20","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T13:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.therandompoet.com\/poems\/?p=396"},"modified":"2025-01-31T13:50:22","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T19:50:22","slug":"so-he-just-left","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.therandompoet.com\/poems\/2017\/05\/02\/so-he-just-left\/","title":{"rendered":"How Taxes Work (aka &#8211; We Need Bob)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All had been fine with the six that meet, first Tuesday of each month.<br \/>\nAll life long friends on different paths, would meet and have some lunch.<br \/>\nAll shared their stories and reminisced, as they ate and drank.<br \/>\nBut as so oft in life we see, good things will sometimes tank.<\/p>\n<p>These six that meet are very fair, in how they pay their tab.<br \/>\nIt all depended on their fortunes &#8211; the money that they had.<br \/>\nTo keep it fair, they split their bill, like taxes that they pay.<br \/>\nSo a sixty dollar bill for lunch, would be paid this way.<\/p>\n<p>Sal was always sad and broke, he never had a dime.<br \/>\nSo every month there was no cost, for him to come and dine.<br \/>\nJoe has a job, delivers stuff, sometimes rides a bike.<br \/>\nHe paid a dollar for his lunch, and all thought that was right.<\/p>\n<p>Tom drives cross country, eighteen wheeler, earns a good amount.<br \/>\nFor the lunch he paid five bucks, a slight but fair discount.<br \/>\nRick&#8217;s a writer, earns good pay, lives in Hollywood;<br \/>\nfor each lunch he pays twelve bucks, an amount he thinks he should.<\/p>\n<p>Pete lectures in the Ivy League &#8211; professor true and blue.<br \/>\nHe gladly pays twelve bucks for lunch, a fair amount that&#8217;s due.<br \/>\nAnd Bob did great in real estate, worth billions &#8211; nearly four.<br \/>\nBob paid thirty bucks for lunch, and he could pay much more.<\/p>\n<p>Six years of Dee Dee&#8217;s Deli lunches, before it blew apart.<br \/>\nAnd all so sad the end occurred, when Dee Dee showed some heart.<br \/>\nShe said she wanted them to know, what their business meant,<br \/>\nso henceforth every bill was cut, by twenty-five percent.<\/p>\n<p>Hhmmm &#8211; what to do, with fifteen dollars, how to split it up?<br \/>\nThe easy way to make the split, give each that pay &#8211; three bucks.<br \/>\nSome quickly saw that wouldn&#8217;t work, even Joe agreed!<br \/>\nget paid two bucks to eat your lunch &#8211; not fair &#8211; it&#8217;s more than free.<\/p>\n<p>Dee Dee heard their conversation, and offered a solution,<br \/>\nreduce each bill the same percentage, as their contribution.<br \/>\nSo now there&#8217;s two, both Sal and Joe, who will not pay for lunch.<br \/>\nAnd Tom will pay three bucks not five, it&#8217;s something but not much.<\/p>\n<p>Rick pays nine instead of twelve, Pete also pays three less.<br \/>\nAnd seven dollars goes to Bob, a relative largesse.<br \/>\nBut as they left, trouble brewed &#8211; their thoughts they start to share &#8211;<br \/>\neach one began, to calculate, their savings to compare.<\/p>\n<p>Tom felt duped, it wasn&#8217;t fair &#8211; 2 dollars was his share &#8211;<br \/>\nthat Bob received way too much, it didn&#8217;t seem quite fair.<br \/>\nRick and Pete yelled 15 bucks, be split between them all &#8211;<br \/>\nor &#8211; they said they&#8217;d write a book of greediness and gall.<\/p>\n<p>Then Sal cried out &#8211; he wants something &#8211; in the final deal,<br \/>\nexploitation of the poor is rotten and it&#8217;s real!<br \/>\nBob had to run, just paid the tab, amidst conflicting views;<br \/>\nso all agreed to argue more &#8211; when next months bill came due.<\/p>\n<p>Next month arrived, again they met, to Dee Dee&#8217;s they all came.<br \/>\nExcept for Bob, who lunched in Caen, the group thought that was lame.<br \/>\nThey had their lunch, got their bill, then tried to comport &#8211;<br \/>\neach one paid what each thought fair &#8211; and were thirty dollars short.<\/p>\n<p>(The Random Poet:041817<br \/>\nwww.therandompoet.com)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All had been fine with the six that meet, first Tuesday of each month.
