From Anzio’s grief, to a park where he plays,
\nmy thoughts are the same everyday.
\nConnecting the past to the present with time –
\nwondering how fates are assigned.<\/p>\n
A nightmare of shrapnel, death and men’s cries,
\nI heard him recall ’til he died.
\nA wispy fresh breeze, giggles, sunshine and smiles,
\noh to see happy eyes of a child.<\/p>\n
Those torturous days, only part the price paid,
\nhell’s lost to memories that fade.
\nSo what’s it all for? why go to war … ?
\nsuch answers too deep to explore.<\/p>\n
Ideals are perfect extremes at their best,
\nand at worst a futile quest.
\nAs we live in between – those distant extremes …
\nnot forgetting the past is best.<\/p>\n
